1977 Volkswagen Kombi 2.0 T2 RHD

This beautiful 1977 VW Kombi Type II T2b Bay Window has recently been lovingly restored to its former glory and is completely rust free, having spent it’s life in South Africa.

An original VW Type II is hard to find as their ‘Kombi’ nature encourages uniqueness, and most will have been altered in some way, so this is quite a rare find.

The name Kombi comes from the German word "Kombinationskraftwagen" (combination vehicle, i.e. both a passenger and a cargo vehicle combined) as the rear seats could be removed or added.
The Volkswagen Type II, commonly known as the VW Camper or Kombi, is a multi-purpose vehicle produced by Volkswagen between 1950 and 1979. Officially named the Type II Transporter (the Beetle was the ‘Type 1’), it came in many different guises. A rear- engine, rear wheel drive van, it was possibly the first people carrier and is now considered an iconic design. In August 1967 the Type II T2 ‘Bay Window’ van was produced, wider and higher than the T1 and was fitted with a sliding side door. In 1971 the 1679cc Volkswagen 411/412 engine was offered, giving 66bhp. The body was refreshed in 1973 creating the T2b or ‘Late Bay’ van with production ceasing in 1979.
